April is child abuse prevention month. Although this is a difficult subject to discuss, it is an important one. Please listen with an open mind and be mindful of any emotional triggers you may have in listening to this episode.
As many of you know, I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and only began sharing my story a few years ago. I had the privilege of touring a local child advocacy center in Orlando called Kids House and interviewing the CEO Juliette Kong.
Kids House is dedicated to preventing child abuse and helping child abuse victims and families. They are providing coordinated services in a safe, child-friendly environment from report and investigation through treatment and resolution.
Juliette has been working with Kids House for 20 years. Her passion for preventing child abuse and working with the victims and their families is unwavering. I was completely in awe, speechless, and in all honesty in tears after experiencing the ‘walk in your shoes tour’.
I challenge you to take a moment to think about any child in your life that you care about. How would you feel if you found out they were being physically, sexually, or emotionally abused every day?
There are many ways to support child abuse prevention. I encourage you to find a local center and visit to learn more about the reality of child abuse. If you are in the Orlando-Sanford area, Kids House is an incredible facility with the most caring staff. Please check out their website. You can make a donation, volunteer, and gather resources to help prevent child abuse.
Again, please be mindful of any emotional triggers that you may experience from hearing about child abuse in this episode. But I implore you to listen to this very important and impacting conversation with Juliette.
I’m loving these conversations and hope you are too. If you are, please rate my podcast on your platform of choice and share it with others! If you would like to support with a donation to help keep this podcast going, you can become a patron of the show by visiting my website or Patreon.com.
