Senator Shevrin Jones is one of my favorite legislators. He serves the Miami Dade district in Florida and has been a key supporter of the AAPI history bill that recently passed in Florida.
We have a brief, but important conversation on some of the nuance of government and what it takes to get legislation passed in Florida. I appreciate the candid conversation about compartmentalization and the challenges of navigating the Florida Senate.
It is an honor to have guests like Senator Jones on the show. I truly enjoy these conversations and hope you do too. Please share this podcast with others and rate it on your platform of choice.

About Senator Jones
A teacher, nonprofit leader, and longtime public servant,
Shevrin Jones has dedicated his life to serving our community.
A Florida native, born and raised in Miami Gardens (Carol City), Shev has called West Park home for nearly two decades. After teaching A.P. Chemistry in Broward County Public Schools, he served as Executive Director of South Florida Reading Corps. He also founded South Florida Youth Summit, the largest gathering of young people in South Florida, and LEAD Nation, one of South Florida’s top organizations for leadership training. As a teacher, leader, and legislator, Shev has always fought to expand opportunities for our kids.
Before his election to the State Senate, Shev served in the Florida House from 2013-2018. From advocating and securing funding for youth mentoring, to championing legislation that increases transparency between the public and law enforcement, he consistently fought for real change. Shev has a track record of working collaboratively to get the job done for our community, even as a member of the minority party.
As we recover from COVID-19, Shev knows we need bold action to help our state rebuild. In the State Senate, he’ll support our public schools, fight for economic justice, and continue working to reform our criminal justice and police systems.
