I had a lovely conversation with award-winning South African actor and voice artist Langley Kirkwood. Langley plays the villain Buckley on HBOMAX’s Warrior. It’s been surreal to speak with so many cast members from Warrior and Banshee.
Langley shares his love for Cape Town, triathlons, and acting. As an admirer of his work, it was fascinating to hear about how his triathlon training compliments his acting process.
Langley has an extensive knowledge of World War II history and we delved into a comparison of that era to the world we live in today.
He also shares his admiration and respect for his fellow Warrior cast members and stunt performers, especially fellow actor Hoon Lee.
If you hear any interruptions, we did have a few dropped zoom calls during the episode, so we appreciate your understanding. Since Langely is so kind and patient, we did get a good laugh about it and you can watch our outtakes on youtube.
I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. My favor as usual is to please continue to share this podcast with others. It would mean so much if you also rate it and leave me feedback.

About Langley Kirkwood
Langley Kirkwood is an award-winning South African actor and voice artist. He was born in England to South African and West-Indian parents, grew up in Johannesburg (where he studied drama at the University of the Witwatersrand) and has lived in London, New York, and Los Angeles. He is the proud father of two children, Willow and Phoenix, neither of whom are technically children any longer, but fortunately, they still hang out with him from time to time. Langley lives in Cape Town, South Africa with his partner Sarah, an artist and sculptor.
Although he works primarily in front of a camera, Langley returns to his first love, the theatre, when he can and has worked extensively as a voice-over artist in commercials and in long-form narration. He recently completed writing his first novel and is still finding the courage to let somebody read it.
Film highlights include working with Juliet Binoche in John Boorman’s In My Country (2004), with Hollywood legends Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon in Invictus (2009), as the evil Judge Lex opposite Karl Urban in Dredd (2012) and in Gilles de Maistre’s four-year labor of love Mia and the White Lion (2019) opposite Melanie Laurent. He has recently completed filming on Collision, directed by Fabien Martorell for Netflix, set for release in 2022.
Langley’s television credits include Generation Kill (2008) for HBO, The Bible (2013) for History, Black Sails (2014) for Starz, Banshee (2015) for HBO/Cinemax, The Catch (2017) for ABC and most recently playing Walter Buckley in the Bruce Lee inspired Warrior on HBO Max, which will shoot its third season in 2022.
Langley is something of an exercise addict and sports fan. A multiple Ironman athlete, he loves swimming, surfing and riding his bicycles on and around the mountains of the Western Cape (and wherever in the world he may find himself). He is passionate about cooking and it is one of his great joys. It has become clear to him that the older he gets, the less he knows.
