299. Naturalist Micaela Solís on life in the Galápagos Islands

Micaela Solís is a naturalist for the Galapagos National Park. I had the pleasure of spending a week with Micaela during my visit to these remarkable islands. Words simply cannot describe the wonderment that is the Galapagos.

292. Langley Kirkwood on South African history, education and empathy

Langley Kirkwood discusses his new film Collision on Netflix, Warrior Season 3 and the upcoming Netflix One Piece live action film. It is eye opening to hear about the very real issues highlighted in the film Collision: xenophobia, racism and corruption. Langley educates me about the history and current socio-political situation in South Africa.

290. Gene Luen Yang on writing Shang Chi, American Born Chinese and Monkey Prince

Gene Luen Yang is an award wining author and comic creator of American Born Chinese which is soon to be a television show on Disney+. He also shares updates on DC’s The Monkey Prince and Marvel’s Shang Chi. Gene is creating a new graphic novel called Lunar New Year Love Story with LeUyen Pham and an adaptation of video games Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.

289. Sacha Coward on Pride Month, LGBTQ+ history and mermaids

Sacha Coward is a LGBTQ+ historian, tour guide and escape room designer from London. I could’ve conversed with Sacha for hours about LGBTQ+ history, mermaids and vampires. In the US we are honoring Pride Month, and I am grateful to Sacha for teaching me about the history of Pride and how the LGBTQ+ culture has evolved over the years.

282. Jennifer Mosier on passion for the arts

Jennifer Mosier (SAG-AFTRA) is the President of Synecdoche Works, an arts nonprofit. We discuss her love for the arts and theater as well as her life growing up in 1970s Manhattan.

Jennifer was also open in sharing what life was like for her growing up as a half-Korean mixed-race child. We share outrage and discuss the ongoing issues of anti-Asian hate crimes against women.

In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month, I’d like to kick things off with a conversation about what this month means to me and how I intend to celebrate.

As many of you know, I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and only began sharing my story a few years ago. I had the privilege of touring a local child advocacy center in Orlando called Kids House and interviewed the CEO Juliette Kong.

May Lee is an award-winning broadcast journalist, host of “The May Lee Show,” adjunct professor at USC, and founder of Lotus Media House who has been both a US-based and international anchor, host, correspondent, and producer.

It was a pleasure to speak to May as a fellow podcaster and AAPI activist. May has been very outspoken about the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes since the start of the pandemic and spotlighted many of the victims of these horrible events.
